31 Days to Prepare for Baby, Day 31- Reflections

Now that I am going to be a second time mom, I am already well aware of the fact that you can never be too prepared to have a baby.  There will always be things you need, want, or wish your child could have.  However, we walk a fine line between necessity and overabundance.

A friend recently called and asked if I had any newborn clothes I wouldn't be using.  First instinct is to say that I don't know.  I don't know how long Kai will be able to fit in newborn clothes.  I don't know if he will stay in footie pajamas or if he will need his three piece suit for the Presidential inauguration.  Although, as I think back 3 years ago to when the Big One was born a truth suddenly presents itself.  He will most likely fit in newborn clothes for a week or two.  I have PLENTY of clothes, I should share.  There is no way we need as much as we have and thus a lesson presents itself:

Too much is too much any way you look at it.

Whether you are a newborn or ninety, two much stuff makes things more complicated than they already are!

My 31 days of blogging has been fun, exciting, challenging, difficult, stressful, and overwhelming at times.  But, too much is too much and this momma needs a teeny tiny itsy bitsy break for a day.  See you back on November 2nd!

31 Day to Prepare for Baby, Day 29- Diaper Bag for the Hospital

I have officially moved into the baby brain stage of pregnancy. Today I left my backpack in the parking lot of the zoo. Not just my backpack, but my wallet (!!!!!) and more importantly-my only set of car keys (!!!!!!!!!). Luckily some wonderful person called me and then turned it in.

My sciatic nerve also hurts so bad I want to punch something. Seriously, how am I supposed to get around for the next 11 weeks? I can't sleep, it even hurts to walk! Ugh.

Anyway, my hospital bag for baby will include:
-Going home outfit (Something WARM for Iowa in January!)
-Mittens (so razor blade baby nails can be kept under wraps)
-Blanket to cover the carseat
-Lots of extra room for diapers & such from the hospital

31 Days to Prepare for Baby, Day 28- Packing the Hospital Bag

I didn't pack a bag beforehand when I had the Big One. I had plenty of time & I really didn't feel like I was missing anything! Although, we stayed in the hospital for EXACTLY 24 hours after he was born. I honestly just wanted to be at home. Everyone says "Get your rest in the hospital!" Seriously? Who can sleep there?!

For me:
-Change of clothes (something stretchy that I won't mind throwing away after)
-Headbands/ponytail holders
-Personal hygiene bag (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc)
-Cell phone charger
-Extra bag to shove all the hospital goodies in (diapers, receiving blankets, everything we can grab!)

For the husband:
-Change of clothes (just in case he drives me to the hospital in his jammies!)
-Cash for vending machines

For the Big One:
-Special "Big Brother" Surprise for when he comes to visit. Now, I just need to figure out what it will be! I was thinking a watch? That's pretty cool for a big boy, right?

Also, I will need to pack a bag for the Big One in case he will need to stay overnight with our neighbors.

Any fabulous hospital must haves??

31 Days to Prepare for Baby, Day 27- Baby Book

I purchased Kai's baby book at Target.
The Big One has a baby book that I've been fairly good about filling out,
although some things were rough guesses! :)
The Big One also has a box for keepsakes & a file box for pictures/art.

See?  I already put a sonogram picture in there!
I like that this book goes up until the first year of school.
Now, to begin filling it out!

31 Days to Prepare for Baby, Day 26- A Place to Sleep

The Big One slept in our room for the 4 months.
It was so convenient to have him right there when he woke up.
However, the husband was only home on weekends then...
I wonder how many sleepless nights he'll put up with before he nixes the bassinet or he moves to the couch!

All I have to do is track down the sheets
or buy some new ones.
I had to put it on the other side of the room for now so I don't run into it when I get up in the middle of the night!

31 Days to Prepare for Baby, Day 25- Cleaning Up the Carseat

Lucky for us we can still use the Big One's original carseat!
It just needed a little cleaning up...
since every worm and spider in the Quad Cities lives in our storage area.

Stripped it down and threw the fabric in the wash.
Then sprayed down the rest with Mrs. Meyers all purpose cleaner.
 Good as new!
The Big One was throwing a fit about it,
So I said, "you can't even fit in there!"
To which he proved me wrong.

31 Days to Prepare for Baby, Day 23- Baby Care Cart

Glucose test this morning.
Left the Dr. and ran to Target (on a VERY empty stomach)
and bought everything in sight.

The Big One got a special surprise because he has been a big helper with the Little One's room.
Teeny tiny Cars and a storage box for them.

His response?
"For me?  That was so so nice!  I love you mom!"
The husband and I sure are lucky.  :)

I bought the baby care cart to help organize the closet.
It was right around $23.
Easy to assemble!
Not so much.
Annoying to assemble.
Teeny tiny cars kept sneaking in.
 Fits nicely in the closet!
Thanks to the Big One for stocking the socks!

Every baby needs 15 pairs of shoes.
Kidding!  20!
Unfortunately, the Big One was already wearing a size 1 when he was born!
Whoa! That's a BIG baby foot!

Final result of the care cart-
Burp Cloths/Bibs
Nursing Supplies/Socks & Shoes

31 Days of Preparing for Baby, Day 22- Closet Procrastination

Working on the closet.
There is a lot of space that isn't being utilized that I really need.
With the Big One I had a drawer unit in his closet where I kept all his bibs, burp cloths, hats, socks, shoes, and other random tiny items.
We got rid of it before we moved from Texas because it was a little flimsy and we figured it wouldn't survive the move.
I wish we would have tried!
I've been looking online & I think I'm going to have to go on a Target run tomorrow after my doctor's appointment (glucose test, gag! I mean YAY!)

I like these hanging organizers, they all run around $30 & are only available online.
How cute are they?  Can someone come to my house and make the Little One's closet look this cute?
I'm not sure how their baby is going to survive with only one pack of onesies!

I like that this one takes up less space

This little cart is like what I had before!
Definitely hoping they have this in stock,
although I remember it being quite a pain to put together.

Promise I'll make some progress tomorrow.
Sometimes I feel as if I should be doing 31 days of pregnancy/mommy excuses :)

**More excuses: I will resume Meal Plan Monday on 11/5, current meal plan-eat all the junk we already have**

31 Days to Prepare for Baby, Day 21- Organizing the Closet

 I've talked about overabundance.
I've talked about footie pajamas.
I never thought I would say those words in the same sentence, but....
we have an overabundance of footie pajamas!
Those are all NB size!

We still had some junk items in the closet,
which I probably should have cleared out before I started putting clothes in!

 After shot (junk items removed)
One drawer for pants-

I put up all of the 0-3 month clothes.
Then, I ran out of hangers.
The closet has officially turned into at least a two day project!

On a side note, the husband ran the Army 10 Miler this morning and we couldn't be more proud of him!

31 Days to Prepare for Baby, Day 20- Closet Dividers

We went and got all the goodies to make closet dividers at Hobby Lobby.

Materials needed:
Door Hangers
Craft Paint (I used the khaki left over from the letters)
Paint brush/sponge
First, I painted the door hangers.
I let them dry for approximately 45 minutes.
Next, I hot glued the elephants onto the hangers.
 Added the stickers.
 Almost done...
I cut a piece of ribbon about 8"
and used it to hang the divider up.

All together hands on time was 5 minutes.
Super easy.
Total time, 50 minutes (after letting paint dry).

(excluding the paint and ribbon that I had)

Elephants- $2.68 (.67 ea)
Door Hangers- $3.16 (.79 ea)
Stickers- $1.49
Total $7.33 or $1.83 each

Obviously, the elephants and stickers are not necessities.
I was originally going to cut out a onesie shape out of cardstock, however I was suckered into buying the elephants by the Big One.
If you have good penmanship you could write the sizes yourself,
I don't.  :)

Tomorrow, we hang finally hang clothes!

Make sure you enter the giveaway for an item from Brooke's Angel Wings here!!!
